Joining the room

Open Moderation > Joining the room to decide how new people get in:

  • Review new members: people send a request and a moderator lets them in. Invite links still work. Add up to three Questions for people asking to join; their answers show with the request.
  • Accept the rules before posting: new members read the room's rules and agree before their first post.
  • Review a new member's first posts: how many of their first posts wait for a moderator (0 is off).
  • Catch people impersonating moderators: flags anyone whose display name looks like a moderator's, even with look-alike letters.

Verification level

Verification level sets how long someone must have used ZapRooms before they can contribute: None, Low (15+ minutes), Medium (1+ hour) or High (6+ hours). Moderators are always exempt.

Raids and reports

A raid is many people arriving at once to flood a room.

  • Detect raids locks the room down by itself when joins, or posts from brand-new accounts, suddenly spike, and tells you. Set how many Joins that count as a raid, Within (minutes), and Lock down for (minutes).
  • Hide after this many reports hides a post once enough people report it, until a moderator looks. Established members count as one, new accounts as half, and a moderator's report straight away.

Lockdown

Start a lockdown for riding out a raid: links, media and new members are held for review, and slow mode is forced on, until it lifts. You can Extend the lockdown or Lift lockdown early. Members see a Lockdown banner.

Slow mode

Set SLOW MODE on a channel in its settings to make members wait between messages. Moderators are exempt.
