Moderation bots
Build always-on bots that match content with conditions, then reply, warn, hold, remove or ban, with a dry run first.
Moderation bots are rules that run all the time in your room. Each bot has one or more rules; each rule says When something matches, Then what happens.
Create a bot
- Open Moderation > Moderation bots.
- Tap Create moderation bot. Give it a Bot name; members see it in the bot's public reasons.
- Add bot rule and set:
- Where: posts, comments, chat, or members' names and bios.
- When it matches (below), with up to five extra conditions such as "new to the room" or "NOT wearing the Trusted flair".
- Then: the action.
- Save it.
Start from a ready-made rule if you like: No selling, No personal attacks, Spoilers, Scams or Stay on topic.
What a rule can match
Phrases (with protection against look-alike letters and disguises), exact text, regular expressions, any link, invite links, suspicious or shortened links, listed domains, mention spam, excessive caps, repeated characters, long content, emoji flooding, glitch text, duplicate or rapid posting, new accounts, attachments, email addresses, phone numbers, crypto wallet addresses, member reports, low boost points, existing strikes, flair, the watchlist, and names that look like a moderator's.
Two kinds of rule use Zaplog's AI:
- Plain-English rule (AI): write the rule the way you'd explain it to a new moderator. The AI reads each post against it a few seconds after it goes up, so it can't stop a post before anyone sees it.
- Harmful text (AI) and Harmful image (AI): score content for hate, self-harm, sexual content and violence.
AI checks are limited by the room's daily AI allowance, set under Checks after posting.
What a rule can do
Hold for review, Delete content, Delete & mute, Delete & remove member, Delete & ban, Warn, Offer support, Reply only, or nothing (Dry run). Rules can also add a strike, put the member on the watchlist, hold their next posts, mark a post NSFW or as a spoiler, set flair, lock the thread, switch on slow mode, or alert moderators.
Choose who hears about it: Reply in public, Tell only the author (a private notice with the rule and a way to appeal), or Say nothing. Deletions always explain themselves.
Rehearse first
Turn on Rehearse this rule (dry run) to log what it would do without doing it. Try it on the last 7 days shows how many recent posts it would have caught. Imported bots arrive rehearsing, so nothing happens until you switch dry run off.
Manage bots
- Pause all bots stops them for a while; they resume by themselves.
- Duplicate bot, Copy to another room, Export and Import a bot.
- Rule history lets you put back an earlier version of a rule.
- Owners, admins and moderators bypass bot rules.
