AutoMod checks posts, comments and chat in your room automatically, even while no moderator is online.

Turn it on

  1. Open Moderation.
  2. Under Protection controls, turn on AutoMod enabled.

When it's off, rules, filters and limits are paused; room permissions still apply.

New rooms can Add starter protections: Add default rules & filters, Add default rules only or Add default filters only. These are essential safety and anti-spam packs covering invites, suspicious links, mentions, rapid posts, duplicates and character flooding.

AutoMod rules

Open AutoMod rules (Links, media, rate limits, spam heuristics, crowd control) to set:

  • Links: allow links, or only from Allowed domains, or block Blocked domains.
  • Media: which kinds of attachments are allowed.
  • Rate limits: Posts per hour, Comments per hour, Messages per minute.
  • Spam limits: Caps limit, Mentions per message, Repeated characters and duplicate posts.
  • Crowd control: hold contributions from accounts the room has no history with.
  • Minimum account age: how long someone must have used ZapRooms before they can contribute.

Moderators are exempt from rate limits in their own room. Content AutoMod holds stays visible to its author, so nothing disappears silently.

Banned words

Open Banned words and add a word or phrase, or Start from a pack (for example Slurs & hate, Harassment, Scams & spam or Explicit sexual terms for rooms that stay work-safe).

For each filter, choose:

  • Where it applies: posts, comments, chat, or everywhere.
  • Whole words only: on, "ass" ignores "classic"; off, it catches it.
  • Case sensitive.
  • Severity, which sorts the queue (high-severity filters are checked first).
  • What happens when content matches: hold it for review, remove it, or remove it and act on the member.

Filters ignore zero-width characters and common look-alike swaps such as 3 for e and 4 for a. For advanced patterns, use a Regular expression.

Mention permissions

Choose who can use @everyone and @here in the room. This stays enforced even when AutoMod is paused.
