A mention makes sure someone notices a message, even in a busy group.

Mention someone

  1. In a group chat, type @.
  2. Pick a member from the list that appears, or keep typing their name to narrow it down.
  3. Finish your message and send it.

The mentioned person's name is highlighted, their chat list shows @ next to the group, and they're notified even if they muted the group.

Mention everyone

Type @everyone, or pick Notify everyone in this group from the list. Every member is notified, including people who muted the group.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mention someone in a photo caption?

No. Mentions work in text messages only.

Someone keeps mentioning me. Can I stop the notifications?

Muting a group doesn't silence mentions of you. You can leave the group, or ask an admin for help.
