Mute a chat or group

Mute a chat

1. On the Chats screen, long-press the chat (or tap its photo) and tap Mute Notifications. You can also open the person's or group's profile and tap Mute notifications.
2. Choose 8 hours, 1 week or Always.

A muted chat shows a muted bell in your list and doesn't sound or vibrate. Unread counts still appear. Other people aren't told that you muted the chat.

Unmute

Do the same again and tap Unmute Notifications. The profile shows Muted until a time while a mute is running.

Mentions still get through

If someone mentions you with @your name, or uses @everyone in a group, you're notified even when the group is muted. See Mention people in a group.
