Why links in chats show a title and picture, why previews can differ between phones, and how to remove one.

When you send a web link, Zaplog shows a preview card with the page's title, description and picture.

How previews are made

Each phone makes its own preview by visiting the link when it shows the message. The preview isn't sent with your message. This keeps your message end-to-end encrypted, but it means:

  • The website sees the IP address of each phone that shows the preview.
  • A preview can look different, or be missing, on someone else's phone, depending on their network and on whether the website answers.

Remove a preview before sending

When a preview appears above the composer, tap its X (Remove link preview) to send the link without it.

Tap a link to open it. Links open in Zaplog's own browser unless you've changed that. Long-press a link for Link Options: Open Link, View link content or Copy. See Open links in Zaplog.
