Permissions Zaplog asks for, and why
What each phone permission lets Zaplog do, and how to change your mind later.
On this page
The first time you open your chat list, Zaplog shows Zaplog needs a few permissions with a short reason for each one. Tap Continue and your phone asks you about each permission in turn. You can say no to any of them and still use Zaplog; only the feature that needs that permission stops working.
What each permission is for
| Permission | What it's used for |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Messages, calls and reminders the moment they arrive. |
| Contacts | Seeing who you know on Zaplog. The phone numbers in your contacts are sent to Zaplog's servers to find matching accounts, and aren't used for anything else. On Android, Zaplog also asks to write contacts so it can save a person to your address book when you choose to. |
| Camera | Photos, videos, video calls, video notes and scanning QR codes and barcodes. |
| Microphone | Voice messages, video notes, calls and voice channels. |
| Photos and videos | Sharing and backing up the photos and videos you choose. |
| Location | Sharing where you are, only when you choose to. Zaplog uses your location only while the app is open on your screen. |
| Calendar | Showing your calendar alongside your plans in Organized. |
What Zaplog doesn't ask for
- Background location. Zaplog never tracks where you are while it's closed. The one exception is live location, which you start yourself in a chat and which shows a notification for as long as it runs.
- SMS. Zaplog doesn't read or send your text messages. If you message someone who isn't on Zaplog, your phone's own messaging app opens.
Change a permission later
On Android
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Go to Apps > Zaplog > Permissions.
- Turn each permission on or off.
On iPhone
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Zaplog.
- Turn each permission on or off.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to share my contacts?
No. Without contacts access you can still start a chat by typing a phone number or searching for someone's @username. You just won't see a list of which of your contacts already use Zaplog. See Find your contacts on Zaplog.
Why does Zaplog need my microphone for a video call?
A video call sends both your picture and your voice. If you deny the microphone, Zaplog can't connect calls.
