Voice channels
Join a room's voice channel, talk, mute and deafen yourself, use push to talk, and turn on captions.

Voice channels, listed under VOICE CHANNELS, are always-open rooms for talking. Join whenever you like and leave when you're done.
Join a voice channel
- Tap a voice channel (🔊).
- Tap Join voice. Zaplog needs microphone access.
The channel shows who's IN THE CHANNEL and who is speaking. Everyone in the room can see who's in a voice channel.
While you're connected, a Voice connected bar stays at the bottom of ZapRooms, and a notification keeps you connected while you use other apps. Tap Open voice screen to go back.
Controls
| Control | What it does |

| Mute / Unmute | Turn your microphone off or on. |
| Deafen / Undeafen | Stop hearing the channel, and mute yourself. |
| Start video / Stop video | Turn your camera on, if the channel allows cameras. Flip switches camera. |
| Raise hand | Ask to speak, in channels where only some people can talk. |
| Audio | Play audio through the Phone, Speaker or Headphones. |
| Captions | Show live captions, if the channel has them. |
| Leave | Disconnect. |
Tap a person to change their Volume for you, Mute for me (only you stop hearing them), View profile or Report.
Push to talk
In a channel set to Push to talk only, hold Hold to talk while you speak. You can also choose push to talk for yourself in ZapRooms settings under Voice.
Captions and recaps
Moderators can turn on:
- Live captions — each person's speech is turned into text on their own phone and shown to the channel. Nothing is saved.
- Zappy recaps — captions are kept until the conversation ends, then Zappy posts a summary in the room's chat and deletes them.
The channel tells everyone when captions or recaps are on. To keep your own words out of captions, turn off Caption my speech in ZapRooms settings under Voice.
Why you might not be able to talk
- A moderator muted you. You can listen but not talk.
- You're timed out in this room, so your microphone is off until it ends.
- This voice channel is full, or locked to moderators.
- You left after a while without speaking, if the channel moves idle people.
