Group admins and the group owner

Admins look after a group. The person who creates a group is its owner and an admin.

What admins can do

• Change the group's permissions.
• Change the name, icon and description, even when that's limited to admins.
• Add and remove members.
• Make other members admins, or dismiss them as admins.
• Send messages when sending is limited to admins.
• Turn disappearing messages on or off when that's limited to admins.

Admins are marked Group admin in the participant list.

Make someone an admin

1. Open the group profile.
2. Tap the member in the participant list.
3. Tap Make Admin, then confirm MAKE ADMIN.

To remove admin rights, tap the admin and choose Dismiss as Admin.

When the owner leaves

If the owner leaves, another member becomes the group owner automatically, so the group carries on. If nobody else is left, the group is removed.
