Browser settings and privacy
Search engine, tracker blocking, HTTPS-only, cookies, history, autofill and per-site settings.
On this page
Open the browser menu and tap Browser settings.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| SEARCH ENGINE | The search engine the address bar uses. |
| Default text size | Text size for sites without their own size. |
| Desktop sites by default | New tabs ask for the desktop version of pages. |
| Search suggestions | Ask your search engine for completions as you type. |
| Save browsing history and KEEP HISTORY FOR | Whether, and for how long, history is kept. Private tabs are never saved. |
| Block ads and trackers | Drops requests to known advertising and tracking hosts, using a list on your phone. |
| HTTPS-only | Try the secure version of every site first, and ask before loading an insecure page. |
| Allow third-party cookies | Lets sites you aren't visiting set cookies, which is how trackers follow you between sites. Off is more private. |
| Autofill and passwords | Let your phone's autofill service fill forms and offer to save passwords. |
Site settings
Open the browser menu on a site and tap Site settings to change JavaScript, tracker blocking and Zoom for that site only. Reset this site or Reset all sites undoes your changes.
Clear browsing data
Open Clear browsing data, pick a time range, and choose:
- Browsing history — removed from this device and your account.
- Cookies and site data — signs you out of most sites.
- Cached images and files — frees space; pages reload more slowly.
- Site permissions — forgets which sites may use location, camera and microphone.
Cookies and cached files are cleared in full; only history follows the time range.
